If you paint a room an dthe color doesn't exactly come out the way you want you could try glazing another color over the top to tone it down. I did a glazing technique in our diningroom that looks like leather. It started out as a yellow I never would have left on it's own, yuck!

I painted a room once that I thought was going to be a dark coral. Nope, pink! Didn't want pink but I didn't want to buy new paint.
