The Backwards House
the house-
My house is built backwards, I kid you not!
This photo (of the front of the house)was taken from down below the paddock.
The driveway is on the other side of the house. The garage is also on the other side of the house.
The nearest entrance to the parking area is a plain old glass slider which leads into the dining area. Tacky! Add another french door to my wish list!
When we need to lock-up and leave, we must go out through the living room door, which isn't a chore. Coming home late, in the dark, is.
The outdoor lighting allows pools of light, but for someone who has night blindness this can be hazardous.
The sad thing is that not one of our guests has ever walked in through the actual front door, ever!

This is so different from my living situation. I'm in an apartment above a business downtown. The arena is about 2-3 blocks from where I live and there's a Motley Crue concert going tonight. I hope to be sleeping soundly and not wake up when they get out. Your place looks beautiful and serene.
Oops, I commented before you got the text out there. It still is way more beautiful than where I live, even if you're not completely happy with the set-up. :-)
squirl-
Can you hear the concert from your place?
I'd imagine certain venues would make you edgy, like the one tonight!
Maybe you'll get some material for your site by tomorrow?
Yes, it's waaaay quiet up here. Just love it.
I'm jealous. I really want to live out in the woods.
They probably built it that way so that the nice side of the house faced the beautiful scenery. But I know how bad layout can really spoil your feeling for a house.
No, I can't hear the actual show. I just get the rude idiots leaving. Managed to sleep through it last night. Just started taking calcium supplements before bed and they really help my sleep. Thank goodness!
sylvana-
You're so right about the front (nice) side of the house facing the scenery.
I really do love the place.

I'm going to have to try calcium supplements too. Glad you didn't have to actually hear the concert.
I think it looks awesome! And, I don't see any neighbors.... what a plus!
cheesecakey-
The only neighbor we can see is from one of the corners of the deck, if you lean way over. It's wonderful.
There's an ordinance here limiting parcel size to a 5 acre minimum, which is cool.
When I look out at night, I see very few lights on the next ridge.
So few lights = lots of star gazing.
Part of me is very jillis. (Do you read Mouse?) But the part of me that likes to walk to restaurants is not.
Tonight my sweetie is taking me to dinner and the opera for my birthday. I'm really geeked. I guess I am geek. My birthday's really tomorrow but I prefer to go to the symphony/opera on Fridays.
squirl-
Well Happy Birthday to you!
I'm going to have to visit mouse. Is she rural too?
Dinner and the opera? How cool is that?
Dinner and opera were cool!
Have you been to Mouse's website? He's an Italian Greyhound who lives in Texas. His owner Tiffany does his website. She is really funny. The spelling is weird but if you read it out loud it gets easier to read all the time. Just put www.savemouse.com in your browser and have a great time.
squirl-
Oh- yes I have been to mouse's site. It had been idle for awhile when I visited.
Guess I'll have to return.
I know what you mean about the writing... guess it's dog-speak!
