Fire!
I received my homeowner's insurance bill in the mail today, and wouldn't you know... there's a fire somewhat nearby! Yeah, you'll have to look closely at the photo to see the smoke.
It takes about 35 minutes to drive to Mokelumne Hill, but the map shows it 12 miles due West as the crow flies.
Our usual afternoon breeze is starting up, meaning the fire is heading directly towards us.
So far, about 50 acres have burned.
The CDF is throwing everything it's got at this fire, but they'll have to land the aircraft for the night in about two hours when the sun sets.
Ahhhh, life in the foothills...
Can't wait for the photo op I'm expecting around sunset!
Update! This fire has been contained, but two new fires have started about 25 miles southwest of here. Thanks for all the well-wishes!

Man I wish you had my camera and lens right now! That would be a cool way to test it out...um, not that I'm glad you have a fire in your area or anything...I just meant that the pictures you could take at that distance might showcase the lens...Er, I'll just go away now as I seem to be lopsided in my thinking.
:::while smacking myself on the side of the head::: "Stupid stupid stupid! Bad things do not necessarily mean good opportunites for pictues. Get that through your thick head"
I hope you guys get good news soon that they got that fire contained!
Be safe.

I wish I had your camera and new lens up here right now too!
We must think alike, because I'm thinking photo op as well.
I'll try and blog through...
Update: Two new fires just started South of here, off Highway 4. Thank goodness The Hubs doesn't have to come water down the Arnold house!
I know you're usually offline at this time, but I'm still sending you good "fire go AWAY" vibes.
Take care!
Yipes Sierrabella! We typically have wildfires every summer -- they can be frightening because they burn so fast. I'm sending good thoughts for cool weather, and maybe even rain. Don't know if I can come through on the rain, though...my dancing skills are a bit rough.
Oh, I hope the fire stays far away from your house!

I'm such a creature of habit!
The fire has been contained, thank goodness!
I missed any photo op since I went to bed extremely early.
We're heading out this morning to get some recall work performed on Mr. SB's truck.

I'm thinking your and the other's good thoughts must have worked!
I thought about trying my rain dance too, but with my luck we might have gotten some lightning strikes... and even more fires!

Thank you so much. Hope you're not getting hit too bad with the tropical storm!
Good luck with that fire! Do a lot of people there build withfire resistant materials like concrete, rock or brick?

Thanks, the fire has been contained, but the scanner is still live with reports.
We have a lot of cabins and typical stucco-type homes up here.
They're building McMansions here and there recently, but I don't know if they're being smart about their choice of construction materials.
We occasionally get earthquakes in the region, so don't usually see rock or brick used.
LOL!!! I'm still laughing about the yard art, sorry.
::deep breath::
Okay, so keep us posted on the fire. Good thing you cleared all that under brush...you did clear away the under brush right?
Okay, gotta head for the hospital. Seeyou when I get back.
So glad to hear that the fires have been contained. I didn't realize this was even going on. I must have turned off computer too early last night.

Do you think the garden art would sell at your nursery? ~heh heh heh~
We did get about 2 1/2 acres cleared and intend to get more underbrush cleared this fall...
The manzanita mainly.
Good luck to Nick with the surgery!
I know you'll be taking good care of him.

I went offline and off to bed early last night too.
We went past the area where the fire began this morning, and they still had trucks there keeping watch.
Oh man. Be careful! About once every three years we get a serious fire season around here. It's creepy because we're surrounded by mountains on all sides and there are only three ways out of town.

This place sounds a lot like "Hooterville!"
We have only one road out of here... either heading uphill or down. Thankfully there are cut-throughs several miles away.
I blogged too early yesterday and I'm a day late! We've had so much rain in the south lately, a fire seems unreal.
Be safe from the new fires!

Hope you and your family are safe!
We haven't had rain in quite a while, making the area a tinderbox.
Thank you for the well-wishes.
Want me to send Hot Stuff? He looks good in fire pants and he is really good with a.... hose.
glad to hear the fire is contained... hope they get the other ones under control fast! Maybe we'll get some more rain this year....
Oh my, I am glad they got the fires contained. We have fires here every summer in the foothills. So I am glad that you are safe. I would join you and eclectic in your rain dance, but those lightning strikes, can be pretty dangerous.

Sounds good to me!!!
The fire is contained, but what the heck!

I recently heard if acorns fall early a harsh winter is coming...
our acorns began falling in late June.
We don't usually get much snow here, but I'm stocking up on canned food and water already!

Almost missed you there!
Yes, we most definitely don't want to tempt the fates.
How did I miss this post ???
