After Midnight

a color altered sunset

During bouts with insomnia, some people read. Some people stay in bed and try to force themself to sleep, as my husband does. I watch TV.

If I could be viewed while watching late night/early morning TV, you'd most likely see me rolling my eyes in disgust. Literally.

During the day, I hate hearing the phone ring... probably caused by years of ringing telephones at work. At night there's a commercial for some technical institute which drives me crazy. It's set up to look like a telethon, and while one of their supposed former students is 'interviewed' about his wonderful life since graduating, there are phones constantly ringing in the background. I'm quite fast with the mute button lately.

There's the Lamisil ad, which has cartoon charactors lifting up a toenail so they can destroy nail fungus... ick.

And why are there fast food commercials in the middle of the night? Our nearest Burger King is about an hour away, and I don't even know if they're open all night. I'm certainly not willing to dodge deer and possible drunk drivers to get a late night snack! Speaking of Burger King, those "Wake up with the King" ads are just plain freaky...

Then there are the the ads for local talk lines, where beautiful (hot) singles are shown chatting, and sometimes meeting up. Yeah, right!

Of course I have to mention the "Girls Gone Wild" video pitches. People must be buying the product, but I don't see the fun in watching girls flashing their boobage. I'd rather watch porn. At least there's an attempt at a plot.

I can now work the remote with both the right and left hand, laying down and sitting up. But believe me when I say I'm most definitely asking for TiVo this Christmas!

FIRST!!!

I'm rolling my eyes right along with you SierraBella. When I can't sleep I try to watch the Food Network because then at least it's not too cheesy (no pun intended). But when I flip past "Elimindate" my eyes 'bout roll out of my head! GAH!!!!

The commercials that are on, usually force me to "Quick-Click" as they're worse than the actual programming!

Can't stand "Elimidate," "Date Plate," or "Cheaters!"

I'll even watch HBO movies I've already seen umpteen times, except I won't watch Jerry Lewis stuff.

All commercials drive me crazy. Most are stupid . . . prescription drug ads are the worst.
When they say side effects an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, face, or tongue; or hives);seizures;a fast or irregular heartbeat;a heart attack;high blood pressure (blurred vision, headache); difficulty urinating; or fever with increased sweating, muscle stiffness, or severe muscle weakness. Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. drowsiness or dizziness; · dry mouth and eyes; constipation; mild tremor; sweating; mild agitation, weakness, or headache;· ringing in the ears; nausea; or loss of weight or appetite.
It isn't bad that they give the warnings, it is just that they make it sound like no big deal, or even that it is a good thing.

*nervously scanning the room* I actually like the commercials. *ducks* But then, I usually only watch TV on football Sundays, and Monday night. But most of them crack me up!

i have a fondness for infomercials....

you will LOVE Tivo, but it will certainly increase your tv watching - believe me when I tell you it sneaks up on you. I went from watching the Sopranos every week to the mess I watch now!

I mostly watch the weather channel and the Encore movie stations. And I don't watch much of those. We have a small apartment and if one person doesn't want to watch/hear TV there's no place to go. So I miss most commercials. Even though I think some of them are funny.

It seems to me that the King's voice is disturbing. He sounds like Chester The Molester.

nanina-
I almost mentioned these ads...
The ones which don't tell you exactly what the product is for annoys me. There's a few I think might be for antidepressants, or erectile disfunction, but I'm not even sure!

eclectic-
I have to agree with you here!
I mainly watch the Superbowl game to see the creative advertising.

jac-
I also watch the news, mainly because our local newspaper is lacking in anything other than local news.
I used the software which came with my Olympus camera. I wish I had Photoshop!

cheesecakey-
I stay away from infomercials, and have blocked the various home shopping networks. I don't trust myself!
Gawd I miss The Sopranos!

kitty-
Guess we're lucky they don't show real toenail fungus!
Boy, did nanina nail it or what?

squirl-
Yeah, like eclectic said, the sports ads can be pretty good.
I watch the Weather Channel too, especially now that I have blogfriends all over! Sometimes I'll tell Mr. SB "Uh oh, squirl, kitty and Bucky are getting hammered" (with rain, not alcohol.) And he knows who I'm talking about!

Oh yeah, those nail fungus ads make me want to puke. But I always have to laugh at all the impotence (let's call it by its real name and not the PC 'erectile dysfunction') ads, especially the part about seeking immediate medical attention for erections lasting more than 4 hours. Wow, 4 hours! Can you imagine? Send them my way and I'll take care of that. LOL (just kidding) Actually, some old 70 year old with a permanent erection sounds pretty scary!

My husband once said that if he was on Viagra, and had that 4 hour hard on, he'd open the hospital doors with his penis and take on all the pretty nurses!
Actually, I wonder what the hospital does for someone in that prediciment?

I love looking at some of the weird stuff on eBay, but my dirty little habit is checking out homes for sale... especially if they have virtual tours!
The commercial you mentioned isn't familiar to me, probably since I've become so quick with the remote.

Ichabod is getting really good at knowing who I'm talking about from the blogoshphere. Sometimes I'll mention someone and he'll say, "Oh yeah.." and he'll describe exactly the blogger I'm talking about. He encouraged me to blog and doesn't mind hearing about it. He was pretty pleased that the picture I took of him holding himself out sideways on that tree got more Flickr hits than any other pictures I have out there.

Ditto on this post. I watch TV, in horror and disgust when I have insomnia. Sometimes I blog-surf, but I'm not really alert enough to read or comment responsibly. So I sit and watch the crap. I hate insomnia.

Thank goodness Ichabod doesn't mind all the blogging!
That really was a great photo. I've just started posting to Flickr and am amazed at how many views and comments pictures get.

susie-
Well I feel better now, knowing that someone else is out there watching the same garbage!

indiaiynke-
Thanks for the link, but my computer isn't 56K, so I can't watch the video!
I'm sure I'll see it soon, though.
