Name My Road!

So, this morning my barking dogs alerted me to visitors. They were County Officials!
I think I scared them, walking out of the house dressed like a vagabond, with my hair tied up in an old lady knot atop my head. Hey, I'm painting, okay?
It appears there was trouble when I called 9-1-1 the day my husband needed medical help... most of the emergency units had trouble finding the house!
To make a long story short, my four other neighbors and I need to name our road.
Sounds easy, right?
Now my first thought is to name it after a local tree. Wrong! We have oaks, pines, cedar and manzanita mostly, and this fact is reflected in many of our local street names.
We all have views. Well, we have "Hillview," "Mountain View," and many other Views already taken as well.
Now if we want to be humerous, there's already an "Oleo Acres," (one of the cheaper spreads- get it?) and even a "Dog Bite Road!"
Any suggestions out there?
I wonder if Sierra Vistas is taken? A little self promotion isn't a bad thing, right?
In other news, Mr. SB's birthday would have been yesterday. I held up just fine. I think the fact that he hated his birthday helped me along. Mr. SB also hated the computer, and wouldn't you know it... both my phone line, and my computer went through some major problems yesterday! Guess I'll have to take it up with him at a later date.

I vote for Sierra Vistas! Um can I ask a stupid question? Up until now, how did you receive mail if your road has no name?
I wanted to send you a Holiday card this year and then I remembered that I didn't have your mailing address. I thought to myself (I kid you not, this actually went through my pea-brain):
"Hmm, I wonder if I just put her first and last name and the town, state and zip code, if she'd receive it?"
Sound like it *might* have worked actually! ;-)
Mr. SB is messing with you. I love it ;-)
Hi Soozieq!
Actually, a neighbor had suggested "Hillview" several years ago. That name was taken, so the oh so incorrect "Hillsview" was substituted... then something fell through, and only the first two homes on the street were 'given' the name. The remaining three properties remained on Railroad Flat Road, which is an ugly name as well.
Y'know, I likely would receive mail the way you suggested! They know me by my surname there... you can figure out why, right?
Ummmmm, because or your easy going and laid-back personality? I know the spelling isn't the same, but....work with me here!
I asked the Hubs if your surname meant something in that general area (because you know, having a cabin in Arnold naturally makes you an "Expert" on the surrounding areas! *snort*) But when I told him your last name he just looked at me funny and said
"I have no idea!"
Well thanks for NOTHING Hubs!
Hi again Soozieq-
Yeah, they know me for that exact reason!
And for some strange reason, they start singing that song!!!
How many people at the Post Office sing to their customers, I wonder?
BTW, one of my neighbors called and she loves the Sierra Vistas name, although it should probably be Sierra Vista.
hmmmmmm Sierra Vista Lane?
I was right!
Ok now *I* have that song stuck in my head. Actually the Hubs just told...er asked me to shut up and stop singing it ;-)
Hi again Soozieq!
Guess what? Sierra Vistas is already taken! The County guy just informed me yesterday afternoon...
I should go steal the street sign, just for a keepsake.
BellaVista Road?
I love that Mr. SB's messing with you, too. That's awesome!
Great idea Eclectic!
My best neighbor and I think it should be named "Shitty Rutted Steep Gravel Road."
Yeah, Mr. SB (or someone) is messing with me! What are the chances both the telephone line and the computer would give me a headache on the very same day? They were totally different troubles!
Maybe Sierrabella as the street name?
I see the connection between both phone line and the computer. I'm sure your husband had a good sense of humor.
You're birthday's right around this time, too, right?
What about 'bella view' or 'sierra avenue'
Sure he wants to have a little fun with you by messing around.
Merry xmas
Hey Squirl!
I don't think the neighbors would go for Sierrabella, but it's a nice thought.
Mr. SB had a wonderful and dry sense of humor, but really hated the computer... he called it "the tool of the devil." It didn't help when someone we both knew ran off with someone she met on a chat line!
Jac, you're always so creative!
Yeah, I'm sure Mr. SB is truly messing with me.
You have a Merry Christmas too! I'll bet you're heading off on vacation again?
This is really going to be tough. Out of 5 neighbors, 2 are at war, and likely won't accept anything the other likes.
I could take the expensive (and chicken) way out and build myself a private driveway down to the main road...
Hi! That's it. I'm useless with road names! The birthday story is funny tho!
Well hello Traci!
I think Mr. SB is at it again... we now have a telephone cable failure!
I'm trying to get some things done (on the computer) while I have dial tone, since it could go out again.
So glad to hear you laugh a little ... would be great if you could call it Sierra Vistas.
Keep smiling and the whole world will smile with you.
Big Hugs for you.
Hello Trinitystar!
Sometimes you just 'gotta' laugh.
Thanks for the Big Hugs, and back 'atcha!'
In seven days.
:)
Have a wonderful vacation Jac!
Not before I see one more of your posts.
plz !
How about taking two of your names: Bella Vista?
I love that Mr. SB is keeping in touch.
xxx
Hi! Just stopped by to see how you're doing and send you a smile and a hug.
:)
Well hello again Jac!
I doubt I'll have the time to post before your vacation... sorry!
I'll try, though.
Susie! Hello!
I do love Bella Vista, but I threw my vote in to remain Hillsview. The two neighbors who were already shown on that street already had business cards and checks with that street name. I just couldn't stir things up after hearing this!
Sorry I missed the cookie exchange. I had the computer shut down for several days while I finished painting and had the carpets installed!
xoxoxo
Squirl, you're so thoughtful!
I'm sending both a smile and a hug right back at you!!!
How about Crooked Oak Road?
It sounds like you will get Hillsview though. Too bad. It really doesn't have a ring to it.
Hi Sylvana!
Nice idea, Crooked Oak.
I agree with you about Hillsview, although it looks better written than pronounced.
I'm hoping to get some time tomorrow to go blog-browsing. I can't want to see what everybody is up to.
You see I pridicted. Thanks for posting. I am leaving tomorrow.
All the wishes... though I wanted to be remembered with a card that you displayed in yor new post.
Thanks, Jac, enjoy that well earned vacation!
Please tell me the thought of naming it "Shit Creek" passed through your mind....
We have a "Yerlost" Road near here.... cracks me up. All the little side roads off our main road had to be named individually for emergency access.... some people came up with some real doozies.....
Happy New Year Homestead!
Sorry, but we didn't even think of "Shit Creek!"
I love "Yerlost." I suppose if you have to ask where you are, 'yer' lost!
I sure hope they get this all sorted out before fire season begins.
Happy Easter!
